From the Manufacturer The XF-5 was designed for the United States Navy and was destined to be the first twin-engine fighter to operate from the deck of an aircraft carrier. The design fell short of expectations and was cancelled in 1942 but many of the lessons learned were used to develop the new F-7 Tigercat that served the Navy after WWII.
